INSTRUCTOR: KARA WHITMIRE
This class will provide students with the fundamentals of working with clay and glazes. Students will be introduced to hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing through instructor demonstrations and one-on-one attention.
Kara Lane Whitmire Floyd is an art instructor and potter from Edmond, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. Floyd received an award for excellence in the field of ceramics from the College of Arts Media and Design at UCO and has had her work showcased in several group exhibitions. Floyd also currently teaches art to grades kindergarten through 8 at St. Eugene Catholic School in Oklahoma City.

Intermediate Ceramics

INSTRUCTOR: PHIL HORTON
Intermediate pottery is designed to help students with a basic foundation advance to the next level. Phil encourages further exploration in both handbuilding and wheel throwing methods. The basic cylinder, bowl and plate forms are built upon to create more complex pieces. Advanced surface design, glazing and firing methods such as raku are also introduced.
Phil has been an art instructor for more than three decades and is also an associate member of Paseo Pottery.

Advanced Ceramics

INSTRUCTOR: MATT MURRAY
This class is designed for students who have mastered centering and pulling on the wheel and/or basic handbuilding methods. Instruction focuses on the creation of complex forms and multi part vessels. Advanced glazing, surface design and firing methods are also covered. Self direction by students is expected at this level with instructors sharing advanced techniques and helping individuals to refine skills.
Matt holds a BFA in ceramics from the University of Central Oklahoma. He has apprenticed under Collin Rosebrook for the last four years and has taught at both Artzplace Oklahoma and Paseo Pottery.

SUMMER ONE INSTRUCTOR: STUART ASPREY
SUMMER TWO INSTRUCTOR: JANET MASSAD
Designed for intermediate and advanced students, this class focuses primarily on handbuilding and surface design. Extruder and slab techniques are covered along with some alteration using the wheel. Unique surfaces are created through the introduction of advanced glazing and texture methods. The instructor guides the class through a new project each session with a focus on creating original work.
Stuart Asprey is a ceramic artist and assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma. His work is a combination of two-dimensional imagery on three-dimensional porcelain vessels and has been in over 60 invitational, juried national and international exhibitions in the past ten years.
Janet Massad received her MFA from the Claremont Graduate School in California. She was also technical assistant to Colin Pearson in his London studio in 1988. Janet received an individual artist fellowship from the City of Pasadena for her work in clay. She has taught, among others, at Pasadena City College, Goddard College in Vermont, New Mexico State University and The Chautauqua Institute in New York as resident ceramics faculty. Janet publishes articles relating to ceramics in international magazines and has exhibited her work nationally. She has worked at multiple art centers around the country and continues to teach a variety of workshops and classes in ceramics, painting and drawing.
