Andrew Polk

Working in digital and mixed media, painting, drawing, and printmaking, artist Andrew Polk will be exhibiting an array of abstract work. Though non-representational, Polk’s work inspires the imagination and challenges the intellect. Combining traditional pigments with metallic paints, Polk juxtaposes what could be static forms with reflective surfaces which can change upon the viewer’s perspective. The artist’s use of varying media allows him to present the suggestion of an image or event that could never be seen but only imagined. The work of Andrew Polk has been exhibited across the United States as well as several galleries in Europe. His work most recently has been exhibited at the Davis Dominguez Gallery, Tucson Arizona. His work is included in the collections of the Denver Museum of Art and Tucson Museum of Art. Andrew Polk is currently a professor at the University of Arizona.

Jason Hackenwerth

New York artist Jason Hackenwerth creates colorful sumptuous sculptures that at once seem alien, botanical and reminiscent of sea creatures. As some sculptors seek media with a sense of permanence like stone and metal, Hackenwerth chooses to instead work with media that is filled with breath and is changes with time until ultimately it shrinks and shrivels away. Hackenwerth creates his sculptures with balloons.  The artist states “I'm filling them. The air inside is slipping out. It's a great metaphor for our own lives." His sculptures change over the course of their exhibition morphing from hearty and voluptuous to shrunken and aged, "a perfect combination of sadness and joy."

“Music Builds a Life” by Asia Scudder

“My life as a child was filled with a wide array of music - music that for me formed a deep appreciation of the expression of the soul through music. I recognize that as there are people of great variety of backgrounds so too are there many creative journeys and expression available to communicate our individual experiences. As a visual artist my expression through wire is simple, clear and whimsical. . .” Norman artist Asia Scudder demonstrates her interaction with music from her childhood through the creation of wire sculptures. The artist combines these sculptures with brief musical notes describing the historical background of various chosen music types along with accompanying audio clips.
